Southern Cross Care Cabarets

Southern Cross Care - Bringing the Fringe to Aged Care 2019 – 2026 Southern Cross Care's Community Foundation exists with one clear purpose: to build better lives free from loneliness and isolation. For six years, Bamboozled Productions has been a part of delivering on that purpose, bringing world-class live entertainment directly into SCC residences across South Australia, Victoria and the Northern Territory.

It started with a bespoke pop-up Fringe festival across four residential communities, transforming each site into a lively hub using our intimate touring tent, The Pocket. As the partnership grew, so did its reach. For the past three years, we've created a unique, bespoke cabaret show toured to all 19 SCC residences - 16 across South Australia, two in Victoria, and one in Darwin, bringing Adelaide Fringe-quality entertainment to residents who can no longer travel to the city to experience it themselves.

Every show is designed specifically for these audiences, accessible, uplifting, and tuned to the physical and social needs of older Australians, while never compromising on the quality and energy of a full professional production.

Each year, we also program a special two-hour cabaret at The Regal Theatre - a full Fringe afternoon out for residents and their families who want the complete experience, in a real theatre, with all the lights, sound and atmosphere that brings.

What we deliver

This partnership draws on the full breadth of what Bamboozled does best:

  • Programming - curating a bespoke line-up each year suited to aged-care audiences, from intimate residence performances to the full-scale Regal Theatre cabaret

  • Consultation with SCC - working closely with the Community Foundation and residence staff to understand the needs, accessibility requirements and preferences of each community

  • Venue sourcing - securing and managing venues from residence common rooms to The Regal Theatre, ensuring every space is suited to the audience and the production

  • Full production delivery - staging, technical support, performer logistics and on-the-ground coordination across 19 sites plus the Regal Theatre event, delivered seamlessly year after year

This is exactly the kind of engagement the Community Foundation champions: programs that give residents a sense of purpose and connection, and create the social interaction that's so vital to wellbeing in aged care. Staff, families and residents talk about these afternoons - and the Regal Theatre - long after they're over. Live performance lifts mood and memory, sparks connection, rekindles confidence, and turns each SCC site into a vibrant cultural gathering place.

At a glance:

  • 6 years of partnership (2019–2026)

  • Directly supports the Community Foundation's mission to reduce loneliness and social isolation through engagement and connection

Testimony

We hosted a series of events for our residents and community throughout the 2019 Fringe season and engaged Bamboozled to manage performing artists, tents and musicians. All of the Bamboozled staff were absolutely amazing and helpful. We had a number of logistical elements to consider; Trent and the crew were all so flexible as the events drew closer and even on the day as we worked through a few last minute changes! Louise chose brilliant artists for our events, who were all well received by our audiences. Her organisational skills are second to none and the events ran smoothly. I would highly recommend Bamboozled Productions to anyone looking to host a festival.
